Split-ends in your hair can be a real buzzkill. If you’re fed up with hair that looks unhealthy due to the presence of unsightly split-ends, it’s time to take action. These useful tips can do wonders for keeping split-ends out of your life for good. If you want to prevent split-ends, all it takes is a little patience and time.
Brush your hair prior to hopping in the shower. Doing so will reduce breakage and tangling, both of which are common problems people encounter after showering. Since breakage can often bring on split-ends, this is a smart idea.
Avoid brushing damp hair, even if you’re in a big hurry. Brushing wet hair is often responsible for a lot of split-end woes in people.
Don’t scrimp on conditioner. After you wash your hair, apply conditioner generously. When you get out of the shower, put a leave-in conditioning treatment on your locks. Conditioners are great for giving hair silky-soft textures. They provide moisture that’s great for keeping breakage at bay, too. Since hair breakage is one of the biggest culprits behind pesky split ends, conditioner application is important.
Go for regular hair trims. Not only is it important to regularly get your hair trimmed, but it’s also important to trim it roughly 1.5 inches on top of the existing split ends. If you ignore your split ends, they’ll just keep splitting. Cutting off a little more hair than seemingly necessary, however, can be great for stopping additional split-end destruction from occurring.
Avoid heat styling your hair. Although heat styling tools can indeed be fun for making your locks look the way you like, they can actually do more harm to your hair than good. Minimize damage to your hair by only using hair straighteners, hair dryers and curling irons sparingly. Whenever possible, allow your locks to air dry. Give your hair some extra texture by putting some mousse on it, too.
Visit your local beauty supplies store to look for a respected split end treatment product. Many shampoos, conditioners and serums can be effective for keeping annoying split ends out of peoples’ lives.
Apply occasional hair masks. If you want to seal in precious moisture and keep split-ends out of your life, put a hair mask on your head regularly. Many people apply hair masks in intervals of two weeks or so. Not only are hair masks often great for preventing split-ends, but they’re also often great for boosting gloss, smoothness and power of the hair — all great things.
Purchase a softer hair tie. If you regularly pull your hair back in a hair tie, say during your gym workout sessions, make sure you’re using one that’s soft rather than tight. Tight hair ties can often lead to breakage and resulting split-ends — no, thank you.
Keep your locks in gorgeous and healthy condition by avoiding split-ends to the best of your ability. The goal with hair is to simultaneously increase its beauty and health. If your hair looks gorgeous, then there’s a good chance that it’s healthy, as well.
